We have seen a new type of the world-wide known “police trojan”, blocking access to the windows desktop. It claims that the FBI (“Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section”) have detected illegal activities, such as viewing/distributing child pornography, using unlicensed software, or distributing copyrighted files. In order to “unblock the computer, you must pay the fine through MoneyPak or $300.”
IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS IS A FAKE! DON’T PAY THE FINE!
Your computer has been compromised by a malware and the displayed message is not from the FBI. It has been installed through an exploit kit that attempt to use vulnerabilities on your computer.
In order to get rid of the problem, please follow the following instructions:
- Stay calm and do not pay the fine!
- Manual disinfection is a risky process; it is recommended only for advanced users. Please seek professional technical assistance. Have a look at our workshop (malware removal) and follow the instructions.
- We suggest to do this on a regular basis. To not miss an important update, we recommend auto-updater as CSIS Heimdal Security Agent.
- We suggest the usage of “script blockers”: Those only allows the processing of script code after the users allowance: For firefox NoScript or FlashBlock are two great examples.
